With support from the Missouri Humanities Council, FOCUS is pleased to announce the second of four forums exploring the connection between the humanities and current issues and events.


Digital change making is way beyond Twitter and Facebook ...

So what does the new landscape of digital “startups for good” look like?


Globally and locally, what are the characteristics of these new digital social entrepreneurs in terms of organization, funding, legal frameworks, and strategy? How do they differ from more established nonprofit organizations? And to what extent do they live up to the potential digital technologies present for the common good?


The keynote address by internationally recognized visiting scholar Joanna Breidenbach will draw on multi-year fieldwork in 24 nations on the emerging global ecosystem of digital change-makers. Joining our keynote for a follow-up panel discussion are two local digital social entrepreneurs, De Andrea Nichols of Civic Creatives, and Paul Sorenson of



Visiting St. Louis from her native Berlin, Dr. Joanna Breidenbach is an internationally recognized and published Cultural Anthropologist and Founder of, a “think and do tank” that investigates the intersection of digital media and social well-being around the globe.   • Paul Sorenson. Founder of Goodmap, a nonprofit resource-linking website based in St. Louis.


This event is free and open to all, but space is limited to the first 60 registrants.
